Welcome!
This is the home of the Minnesota-based group of solitude seekers. We welcome people from "any" and all philosophical (religious/spiritual/scientific/skeptic etc) backgrounds. This group's goal is to enable individuals to experience solitude, to encourage experiencing a solitary personal time, and to promote achieving "solitude" time (mostly) outdoors.

Click on the tabs above to learn more about this group, what we do, what you can do when in solitude, the rules and the mission statement, along with links to our Google Community and Meetup sites. Below you can find posts of upcoming (and past) events and with other random solitude-related posts.

About Us

Creating Moments of "Solitude" (mostly outdoors)

About:

This group is for:
This group is all about "solitude", i.e. spending time alone, experiencing fullness in alone-ness, within a group setting.

How we do it?
We meet and greet, walk, seek solitude time, then we regroup and walk out.

This group is not for:
Any "one" of these: hiking, walking, socializing, making friends, photography, meditation, reading,  contemplating, spirituality, skepticism, nor is it for any one of these: serenity,  slow walking,  silence, neither is this group exactly to make friends (but you might) and certainly not to go out and drink and party or brag or feed your ego.

Who is this for?
Any individual seeking solitude (alone time)
You can be an Atheist, Buddhist, Pantheist, Taoist, Jewish, Muslim, Sufi, Christian, Skeptic, Humanist, Unitarian, Spiritual, anything etc... and highly value solitude time.

Solitude is for everyone!

Why does this exist?
Started this in order to help "you" "experience what I experience when I am alone in nature" within "a group setting". In other words, I wanted to enable others (and myself) to experience (more) solitude in nature.

The mission for this meetup is, a bit tricky, very unique, yet it is simple and very welcoming to people from different philosophical/cultural backgrounds.

The goal is to have an allocated amount of time for a solitary personal experience, likely done in nature, yet doing it with other people relatively close by. In other words, to achieve solitude in nature on a personal level, as individually as can be, while benefiting from having a scheduled meeting and group.  Why a group then? a group offers a couple things at least 1- relative safety 2- allows people to commit to spend time outdoors in solitude.

Do you need this group? No!
You can have solitude right this moment, alone, you dont need "anything" but yourself.

Most the solitude meeting so far have been outdoors. nature is a great place to spend some time alone.

What can you do with this alone time? SO many things, some are:  see the  page titled "What You Do" for details.

This group started (and still is) a meetup.com group.  This was the FIRST and only (as of 10/20/2012) meetup.com group in the world to use the word 'Solitude' as the core of their mission and as a keyword/topic for the group. This is the first and only meetup group to use the topic/keyword 'Quietness' and 'Tranquility' and 'Slow Walking' as well, world-wide.
